Hand-pull your VIP variant edition of Max Sansing’s newest POP!NK print!
Don’t just purchase a copy of Max Sansing’s newest POP!NK Editions screenprint “Knowing” — join Max in our Chicago studio during production, and even hand-pull one of the screens yourself!
Max Sansing and POPINK will host 15 lucky collectors for a special interactive VIP studio experience taking place Saturday, Nov. 7 from noon to 3:00 p.m CT.
Collectors who reserve their spot will be given the opportunity to print a special variant layer of “Knowing” under the direct tutelage of POP’s master printers Curt Readel and Zach Schrey. The mint circular background of the regular edition is changed in the variant to a pale purple eclipse, which participants will get to print themselves. Your print will also be hand-embellished, signed and numbered 1/1 by Max, and deckled by POP before you take it home.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to step inside POP's creative studio and learn hands-on the fundamentals of their craft!

“Knowing,” the latest in a series of collaborations between Max and the POP!NK team, pays tribute to the life and legacy of Emmett Till, the Chicago teen whose 1955 murder galvanized the civil rights movement. The standard edition of “Knowing,” limited to 40 signed and numbered copies, is 16 x 16 inches and executed in eight layers, one of which is a multi-colored split fountain. (A split fountain is a method where two or more colors of ink are placed side-by-side on a single screen and blended together with a squeegee to create a unique gradient. This effect was crucial in bringing Max’s concept to reality.)
Emmett Till’s story continues to echo across American history and society. The 14-year-old was visiting relatives in Mississippi when he was lynched over a disputed encounter with a white woman. Till’s mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, demanded an open-casket funeral and allowed photos of her son’s mutilated body to appear in print, exposing the horrific brutality of Jim Crow white supremacy to the world at large and profoundly impacting activists including Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr.
“Knowing” was originally created for a Till-themed group exhibition, Max says. “[Chicago artist, designer and educator] Norman Teague and I were speaking on what to do for the show, other than the usual portraits and ‘Black trauma’ art visuals,” he explains. “We also spoke about how Emmett Till’s story was a real-life cautionary tale you learned growing up, but also a fate he couldn’t avoid. So I thought to depict a young boy who has a setting southern sun on his mind, and the implications that may bring for his future and safety, while also looking at the key to navigating his future beyond the historical implications. It’s heavy stuff, but a positive mindstate in the midst of unrest.”
“Knowing” resonates far beyond its historical context, Max adds. “Maintaining normalcy in a space of uncertainty, and finding your way through it, is something we all deal with.”
Max is no stranger to POP!NK audiences. The South Side-born painter and muralist fuses the energy and ethos of street art with the rigor and refinement of photorealism, featuring in gallery shows and special events throughout Chicago as well as New York City and Miami. Max has collaborated with POP!NK on numerous projects, including most recently “The Best Day of My Life,” inspired by the Academy Award-winning Sinners.
We look forward to opening our studio space and making this an experience none of you will ever forget.
